Mauzy Properties Keller Williams stinky rental

WOW where do we start. Very very very long story short, we moved into a home represented by Mauzy Properties that had previously been occupied by a hoarder. The owner of the property did not do a very good job of preparing the home despite it being vacant for about 6 months. Several contractors were hired to eliminate the smell of animal feces. One even told the neighbor "We did the best we could". When we looked at the home the bad smell was disguised by the smell of newly finished wood floors. We went forward and signed a 2 yr lease took possession 3 weeks later only to discover after 1 or 2 days in the house it was not very clean and that the basement wreaked of animal feces.
We want to let everyone know that we are so so so disappointed in how this whole situation was handled by Mauzy Properties more importantly the property owner. Mauzy claims they only had access to the home less than 30 days prior to our visit. Even though we were given all of our money back it cannot erase the experience we have been thru. That home we leased should have NEVER been rented to anyone in that condition. I know for a fact the owner knew there was an issue and the Mauzy staff failed as well. It appears it was not inspected thoroughly by Mauzy before it was put on the market for rental under the Mauzy company name, ultimately, dragging them right into the middle. Even after the fact the communications with Mauzy was poor at best. There were numerous times I had to reach out to Jill (Dir of Comm/ Ops Mgr) only to get no response for several days if at all. At one point she told me to never contact her on her cell phone by text or call even thou the number is on her business card which she gave to me. We had to threaten going to court to get some real action. The resolution process was not inclusive based on the plan that was formulated by the property owner and Jill. It did not address the most pressing issues and for the most part just guaranteed more inconvenience for us with no compensation for the clear deception by the property owner. Yes, we know Jill is one of the companies most trusted employees, she initially appeared to be a nice person, but her communications skills are due for a review and refining. There was a lot of disrespectful communications from her including a statement that the owner is gracious enough to let us stay in the home an extended amount of time...?
At no time during this whole ordeal did Chris Mauzy / Owner or the property owner Nicole Klussman of Coon Rapids EVER reach to apologize for anything. Imagine living in a home that smelled of animal feces? We were there for over 2 months not being able to sleep well, no cooking, fighting bugs, hating every second and a PM company that didn't care. There is tons tons more with photos, texts, emails and letters clearly justifying our statement.

Mauzy Properties Keller Williams Landlord/Tenant

Mauzy properties is literally the worst property management company to work with. Anywhere you see Mauzy properties, know there is trouble for you. They are very unfair in how they do business. They are very rude and will try to take as much money from you as possible when you move out of the property. When you move out of the property, Mauzy properties will find ways to charge you for replacing carpet that has normal wear and tear. They will also charge you for fixing things that were wrong with the property before you moved in. They will even charge you for painting the walls, etc before the new tenant moves in. Please make sure to take many pictures of the property before you move in. But they will still find ways to take money from you. Stay away from Mauzy properties. They are bad news. Chris Mauzy is very rude, arrogant and disrespectful.

This is my story.
We moved into one of the properties they manage in Shakopee, MN in January of 2015. The walls were not painted nor were they in perfect condition. They were ok. Also, there were dents and holes on some of the walls and a few patches. The house was in good condition but there was a lot of dirt in the kitchen and some dirt in other parts of the house. I asked the agent to send someone in to clean the kitchen and the places that needed cleaning and to fix the doorknob, which was not working well. They did not clean the kitchen and they did not fix the doorknob. Also, the blinds in the house were all old and ready to fall off. I sent for them to help me with the blinds when we first moved into the house. They did help lower the blinds, but we made sure that we did not touch the blinds much since they were old and ready to fall off.

Then when the lease was about to end, an agent of Mauzy properties told me that since we were very good tenants, they wanted us to renew our lease. When we decided not to renew the lease, the nightmare begun.

There were a series of problems with the house when we moved in. The microwave was not working well and had to be replaced. Also, the dishwasher was not working. We could never use the dishwasher throughout our stay in the property. We asked maintenance to fix the dishwasher many times, but it was never fixed even though people came to try to fix it. So we did not bother using it and left it the way the person who was supposed to repair it left it. Also, the bathroom fixtures were very weak in the house when we moved in. We asked the maintenance to fix the bathroom fixtures but they did not. They just found a way to put the bathroom fixtures on for a temporary fix. The fixtures came off the same day they were fixed, so we just left them off. We were always having plumbing problems and spent a lot of money on draining supplies, but the problem still remained with no help from the property manager.

When it was time to move out, they forced us to move out by 12noon. We told them that we had to have the carpet professionally cleaned and the walls painted and so 12pm would not work. But they told us that they had Tenants moving in on the 1st of June so we needed to be out by latest 3pm. I told him that I thought I was supposed to hand in the keys at 11:59pm on the 31st. I told them that if they don’t give me more time, I would not be able to paint the place. So we were forced to move out by 3pm with the carpets professionally cleaned, the house cleaned and all the light bulbs replaced.

After moving out, the landlord charged us for cleaning the whole house, replacing the light bulbs which were already all replaced, fixing the dents and breaks on the walls that were already in the house before we moved in. and fixing the fixtures that were already weak and were never fixed. The agent who showed us the property before we moved in acknowledged the dents and breaks on the walls. Before we moved in, I pointed these dents and breaks out to her, she told me that we would not be charged for their repair. They also replaced all the carpets in the house, cleaned the house and painted all the walls. They charged us $4, 829.65 for all of this. So after taking out my security deposit of $1, 395, they are charging us the amount of $3, 434.65. This is very unfair. They replaced carpet, which was already in good condition with normal wear and tear and a minor spot in the living room and a spot in only one of the bedrooms. They charged us for $2, 800 for this. They painted the house for $1, 295 and charged us for it. They charged us $375 for cleaning. We were also charged for all the things that were wrong in the house before we moved in, like the dents, doorknobs, breaks in the walls. This cost for this was $880.

It's no joke and am not a troll. I've been in contact with other renters and they say the same thing. He lies to renters and owners alike. It has also been brought to the attention of the BBB. Hopefully they can do something about it.

I haven’t even moved out my place yet but I’ve completed my lease . I have read the reviews and accept I won’t be getting my deposit back that’s fine I want nothing from Mauzy. However they need to be exposed for how they truly treat their tenants. Terrible.

I won’t go into too many specifics, but to echo the commenters below me I recommend that you do NOT rent from this company. Or at least don’t rent from them at one of their properties where they rent by the room. Different people at the company will provide you with conflicting information and it’s not well-coordinated at all. Just stay away.

All seemed well and straightforward until I moved out and they withheld almost my entire security deposit for damages I did not cause and provided them with proof I did not cause. I suppose you could rent from them if you don’t care about receiving your security deposit back! But in my view it’s stealing from their tenants and that’s no way to do business...

DaveSy- aka David Sackey. This review was written by a disgruntled tenant David Sackey. You be the Judge. We have created a website so you can review the way Mr. Sackey and his family left our rental home. Please review the photos and you decide if we acted inappropriately. www.davidsackey.com Mauzy Properties has been in business over 6 years and had over 922 tenant transitions. There is not a landlord or property manager out there that would have returned their Security Deposit after they physically trashed their rental home, in only 16 months. Mauzy properties of Lakeville -bad business behavior.
Please note the following details from the pictures on the website that Mauzy properties created and posted and judge for yourselves.

You will realize from the pictures they provided that there was professional carpet cleaning materials in the property. So those pictures you see there are pictures taken on the move out date. So we had moved our things out of the property and were having the carpets professionally cleaned. At that time, we were waiting for friends to come and help us clean the house. Whilst this was going on, they were taking pictures of the property. Who does that?

You can actually see the professional cleaners yellow and green cords on the floor from the pictures they provided. You can see that it is the move out date (5/31/2016). You don't do business like that. Who goes to take pictures of a property when the tenants are cleaning the property on the day the lease expires? What were Mauzy properties motives for doing this? I think it is obvious, to take our security deposit and to remodel the property at our expense. This is very unfair. We also have receipts to prove that it was professional carpet cleaners we hired.

You would also realize from the pictures they provided that you will not see pictures of the garage before I moved in. You will only see pictures of the garage after I moved out. This is because there was a big dent on the wall in the garage before I moved in. But the agent told me that they know about it and I will not be charged for it. Yet, they charged me for fixing the dent. And by the way, I don’t remember any green door in the house. Are you sure that it was from the house in question?

We did not leave the property like that. We had many friends come to help us clean the property and left it in a very good condition. Also, the house was not smelling but clean. Even though they never gave us enough time to clean the house, with the help of many individuals, we were able to get the house cleaned very well.

Why would a business go back and forth with a previous tenant and create websites with my name and then post misleading information and pictures like this? It is because they feel that they can do anything they want and get away with it. Can you believe that they threatened to take me to court if I did not remove my reviews? The last time I checked, this was a free country with freedom of speech. This behavior is unprofessional and very disgraceful. THIS SMELLS OF ARROGANCE, NOT THE HOUSE. Chris Mauzy and Mauzy properties should be ashamed of themselves.

Mauzy properties has made it easy through the website and the pictures that they were wrong. The pictures have helped to prove my point. So indeed, please be the judge of this. Did I deal with a BAD, TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL business called Mauzy properties or am I a disgruntled previous tenant?

LANDLORD FROM HELL
Chris Mauzy is an arrogant man and a con artist. We lived in a rented property for a year. When we moved into the town home, it was not clean and there was no fresh paint on the walls. There were also dents in walls and fixtures were very loose. The microwave stopped working after a few weeks and the dishwasher never really worked and maintenance was never able to fix it. We had drainage issues from day one and spent a lot of money buying declogging agents. Chris Mauzy asked that we professionally clean carpet before moving out which we did. We cleaned the whole house and made sure all the bulbs were replaced. Only thing we could not do was to paint before moving out. This man has taken our security deposit of $1300+ and is charging $3000+ in addition. He is just trying to make money off of renters who were nothing but great.
Please do not rent from him or do business with him. He is a cheat and a con artist besides the fact that he is rude, arrogant and obnoxious. Please please stay away from Mauzy properties. They are BAD NEWS!

Thinking of doing business with this person. . . I too have had a similar result from "renting with an option to buy" from Mr. Mauzy. In October of 2012 my wife and I signed an agreement to rent and ultimately at a later date buy a house from this man. The language he used was not very lenient but as we were good managers with our money and paying on time we felt there would be no potential for him to claim all of our deposits $6995 and $300 per month in deposits to show earnest will to purchase, to date $7540, for being late with rent.

AUGUST 2014 we send notice to Mr. Mauzy claiming our right to purchase the house. The purchase agreement was not written correctly per his directions in the contract so it was rewritten and submitted again done to his specification. In his written dialog rejecting our first PA (purchase agreement) he requested we sell the contract to purchase back to him for $5000 and all we had to do was stay in the house as renters until the lease expired, 14 months. We paid no head and sent the corrected PA back to him. Before he saw the corrected PA he answered a call from an attorney friend helping us, I have no intention of selling the house this year because I have tax consequences and it would be against the advice of my CPA. Well, you can imagine our outrage. We were planning to open a new restaurant using the new house as an asset to collateralize the loan with the $60, 000 the house had appreciated over the contracted sell price. One week later, Mr. Mauzy further alerted our lawyer friend, tell the tenants I will no longer consider a sale until 90 days from the expiration of the contract.
I must say this at this point. Mr. Mauzy was well versed in our intentions. We told him when we signed the contract we were going to purchase as soon as possible and were excited about owning a new house again for our family. We had experienced a bankruptcy some years earlier and lost our house in the process. While following our bankers advice were rebuilding our credit so timing was essential to everything we were trying to do while recovering our lifestyle after extreme financial difficulties.

We have been duped and taken advantage of by Mr. Mauzy and his company. He did promise us the right to buy this house. He further stated that all he wanted out of the sale was the cost of the house $209, 000 and the $20, 000 spent on replacing the windows. We were ok with the asking price and were anxious to buy it in the near future. Now, Mr. Mauzy is gloating over his position and the control he is so quick to flex as if he had a large bicep and was looking in a mirror. I do not understand why he has chosen us but he has a psychopathic approach as his language does not reflect the duplicitous behaviour he is exhibiting without one consideration for his deceitful nature. I believe Mr. Mauzy has not one cell in his bankrupt soul containing moral fiber. Furthermore, a man that can exhibit, exact and deliver such a message to a elderly couple with no sign of consequence for his actions, shows a person seriously lacking and with no moral compass. He quite clearly has lost his soul, has no moral backbone and is quite comfortable in his black-hearted skin. A man who treats his contracts with so little deference has much more going on beneath the surface and in the shadows of questionable behaviour and one day will face much more consequence, than from us.
